Chilled caffeine or hyaluronic acid patches
- Hydrogel patches stored in the fridge
- 15–20 minutes of wear
- Cold, occlusion and actives in one step
- Results are visible in a single session
- Nothing they do lasts beyond a few hours
A tested sequence with a clock attached. The order matters more than the products, and the two most common mistakes both happen in the last five minutes.
If you have any warning at all, these matter more than anything you do on the day:
| Time | Do this | Why |
|---|---|---|
| T−30 | Cleanse; hold something cold over closed eyes for 3–5 minutes | Cold constricts vessels and reduces fluid before anything else goes on |
| T−27 | Dry the under-eye area properly | Patches slide on damp or oily skin |
| T−25 | Chilled patches on, thicker end inward, 3–5 mm below the lash line | Occlusion plus cold plus humectants, working together |
| T−25 to T−8 | Do your hair, get dressed, leave them alone | Wear time is where the effect comes from |
| T−8 | Remove; pat the residue in, do not wipe | The serum is what you paid for |
| T−7 | Eye cream or moisturizer over the top | Seals the hydration in, especially in dry air |
| T−5 | Wait. Genuinely do nothing to the area | Makeup on a wet surface creases within the hour |
| T−4 | Sunscreen if it is daytime, or primer if you use one | Thin layer only |
| T−2 | Concealer: small amount, only on the dark part, tapped in | Less product, better result |
| T−1 | The lightest possible dusting of powder, only where you crease | Powder is what makes under-eye makeup look dry in photographs |
Placement decides most of the outcome: below the lash line by a few millimeters, following the orbital bone, thicker end toward the nose, with the whole edge pressed down so it grips. On the lid it stings and slides; on the cheek it treats nothing. Take them off at 20 minutes even if the box says 30 — a patch that begins to dry starts pulling moisture back out of the skin. Full technique: how to use hydrogel eye patches.
Which patch for which problem: caffeine if you are puffy, hyaluronic acid if you look creased and dehydrated. If your issue is brown pigmentation, no patch will change it today — that is a concealer job: types of dark circles.

Start about 30 minutes ahead: cold for three to five minutes, patches for 15 to 20, then removal, moisturizer and a five-minute wait before any makeup goes on.
Almost always because it went on before the serum had settled, or because too much product was used. Wait five minutes, use less than feels right, and press rather than sweep.
Cold alone does a surprising amount of the work. Three to five minutes with a chilled gel mask, cold spoons or a cool damp cloth, then moisturizer and minimal concealer.
